Applicant Information

Surf Lifesaving New Zealand and Surf Lifesaving Northern Region have partnered with the University of Waikato to review their existing coach education pathway.

Coaches at all levels devote countless hours to ensuring we have competent lifeguards keeping our beaches safe.  Surf Life Saving acknowledges that Coach Development has not been reviewed for some time.

The purpose of this project is to provide a review and preliminary insights into the process of coach development in SLSNZ. Specifically, the review aims to understand how to better support club coaches working with junior and senior members, in order to ensure they consistently have a quality experience.

The research project will be led by Dr Robert Townsend (University of Waikato Senior Lecturer in Sport Coaching and Pedagogy) and supported by Zac Franich (Surf Life Saving Northern Region).

We are asking for expressions of interest from coaches to share their experiences and insight into the coach education pathway that is currently available. If you would like to be considered to contribute to the research project, please complete the expression of interest form below.

The project will invovle individual interviews and focus groups, and the demand on your time will be minimal. Your insights will be crucial as the organisation seeks to understand ‘what works’ and how it can be improved to support coaches.  Your participation and expertise would be greatly valued.
