The Parks and Recreation Commission is seeking resident input on the current regulation prohibiting dogs in one park in our system.

Almost 24 years ago the City of Wyoming implemented a regulation prohibiting dogs in Pinery Park from May 1 to October 1. At that time, a group of concerned residents advocated to restrict dogs within parks and prohibit certain breeds. Resident concerns related to fear of dogs, allergies to dogs and their dander, pet owners that allowed dogs to run off leash and were not under control by their handlers, and frustration with pet owners that did not pick up after their dogs. After hosting several public meetings to gain input, the Parks and Recreation Commission recommended that one City park be set aside as a dog free zone. Considering location, size, nature of its facilities, and the high rate of resident use, the Parks and Recreation Commission selected Pinery Park to set aside as a pet free environment between the months of May and October each year.
