Module 4 Check for Understanding Quiz Question Title * 1. What are the three therapeutic strategies we recommend to engage your participant and create successful experiences over time? Flatter the Participant, Create a Safe Space by Singing Loudly, End the Session Early Give the Participant Control, Select a Quiet Room, Compliment the Participant Follow the Participant’s Lead, Create a Supportive Environment, Foster a Positive Association with the Session Question Title * 2. If the participant wants to, is it ok to sing the same song multiple times in a row within a session? No - benefits will only occur if the participant sings a wide variety of songs Yes - by giving the participant control over which songs are played, you are following their lead and creating a feeling of empowerment Yes - every song should be played twice in a row during the session because the participant’s ability to memorize the entire song is key to facilitating their experiences of success. Question Title * 3. What is an important part of Creating a Supportive environment for the participant in a physical sense? Sitting across the table from the participant so you are in their line of sight and positioning the speaker and tablet closer to you than the participant to minimize distractions Sitting on a couch so the participant is comfortable Sitting in straight-backed chairs and facing away from the doors or windows of the room in order to support participant posture and minimize distractions Question Title * 4. If you’re in the middle of a session and your cell phone goes off or the laundry machine indicates it’s done, what should you do? Get up and attend to it - if you’re gone for only a few minutes, the participant will be fine. This is especially true during the first few sessions when the participant hasn’t made any expectations about the process. If possible, please stay present in the session so that the participant feels like a priority. If you leave the participant in the middle of a session, it could create a negative association with the process and make them resistant to participate in the future. Either option above is equally appropriate. Question Title * 5. What is one of the reasons it is important to use a high quality, external speaker? Unlike the built-in tablet speakers, an external speaker enables you to play the music at a sufficient volume without it sounding harsh so the participant is comfortable enough to sing along. It’s not important. As long as you turn the tablet volume up to the maximum level, the quality of the sound should be acceptable. It’s only important if your participant is hard of hearing. If not, you can use the built-in tablet speakers, as they are loud enough. Question Title * 6. In addition to using affirming phrases throughout the session, what is another technique to be mindful of when you are implementing the strategy “Foster a Positive Association with the Session”? End the SingFit segment of the therapy session after 3 songs every time Avoid using words with negative connotations, such as “no” and “remember” Keep the volume of the music low so that the participant can hear themselves sing.
