Expression of Interest

CAPHIA is committed to developing the next generation of public health academics as reflected in our 2021-2024 Strategic Plan

The purpose of the Early Career Academics (ECA) Committee is to provide oversight of programs, offerings and events to support the development of public health professionals in academia and in the early stages of public health teaching.

The CAPHIA Board is now calling for new members to join the committee.

Roles and Responsibilities
The roles and responsibilities of the ECA Committee will be to:
  • Determine, organise and promote events and other opportunities useful for early career academics at CAPHIA member institutions.
  • Evaluate Committee offerings for the purpose of improvement, progress updates and strategic plan goal alignment.
  • Provide considered input and advice on the design, content and operational issues for those projects being considered as part of the Early Career Academics Committee operational program, including comment on and discussion of the documentation (such as project specifications) presented to members, and where necessary, support development of that documentation.
  • Provide advice and report to the Board at their meetings on activities, achievements and challenges of the Early Career Academics Committee where requested.
  • Engage with, and support Early Career Academics and staff of member institutions to be involved in the projects of the Committee.

Eligibility
To be eligible for membership, candidates must be an employee of a CAPHIA Full Member organisation, AND either:
  • Have less than five years' experience (FTE equivalent, excluding career interruptions*) teaching public health;
  • A Level A – Level C academic;
  • Employed at a CAPHIA member institution.

Candidates must also share alignment with CAPHIA's vision and values, and have capacity to devote time and energy to the position.

*CAPHIA recognises that life circumstances can be varied and seeks to ensure early career academics with a range of career experiences including those who have experienced pregnancy or parental leave, a major illness/injury or have caring responsibilities, are not disadvantaged by the eligibility criteria. If you are unsure whether you meet the eligibility criteria, or have questions, please contact caphia@caphia.com.au.

The committee will meet at least once every three months, and may meet more often at the discretion of the Committee Chair.

The Board will also make the following considerations as part of the selection process where relevant;
  • Geographic and member institution representation (no more than 2 members will be selected per institution) and;
  • Diversity of gender, culture, field of expertise, and diversity of academic expertise
