Personal Experiences with Self-Harm

We at PaPSC are updating our Self-Harm training, and a part of that process is getting feedback from those having lived experience with self harm. Please answer any of the following questions you are comfortable answering.

As these answers may be used in our training, please indicate at the end of this survey if you would like to remain anonymous when we use these answers.
1.How would you define self-harm, and what does it look like to you?
2.What kinds of stigma exist around self-harm, and have you experienced any personally?
3.What do you think led you to engage in self-harm?
4.Looking back, what questions could your supports have asked that might have helped?
5.Did stereotypes about self-harm ever cause your experience to be overlooked or misunderstood?
6.What fears or concerns did you have about sharing your self-harm with others?
7.What do you do now to self-soothe in a healthier way?
8.How has your recovery supported you in regard to self-harm?
9.Is there anything else you would like to share about your experience with self-harm?
10.Would you like your answers to be anonymous? Select all that apply(Required.)
11.PaPSC is hoping to hold open interviews in State College at the Schlow Library (211 S. Allen Street, State College, PA 16801) on November 12, 2025. We invite peer professionals who feel comfortable to share their lived experience as part of helping us develop this training. Your insights are deeply valued, and participation is completely voluntary. Would you be interested in taking part or learning more about what that would involve?
