2016 American Craft Spirits Association Distillers Survey

Greetings,

As a valued member of the craft spirits community, we are seeking your input on the first annual structured analysis of the craft distilling industry.  The American Craft Spirits Association (ACSA) has teamed up with International Wine & Spirits Research (IWSR) and Park Street to analyze the market from the distillers’ perspective.

The data collected will be treated confidentially, with special care being given to only release information in the aggregate.  In other words, there will be no disclosure or release of information that would in any way be attributable to any one distillery.  Your response will be kept confidential and released only as a part of the larger survey results.  Therefore, the results will only be as strong as the number of distilleries who choose to participate.

The findings of this study will be presented in October and the details of that release can be sent to you via email.  If you wish to receive the report via email, please check the appropriate box, at the end of the survey, before you submit your response and the final report will be emailed to you in September.  In addition to the final report, for taking this survey you will be given a category specific report from the IWSR which contains important consumption data trends and analysis for the US market.

Our main goal is to represent the growing craft spirits industry and its impact on our economy, as accurately as possible.  We cannot achieve this objective without your help. As you are likely aware, this data does not currently exist. While there are bits and pieces, much of it is speculative at best, with questionable data sources.  We aim to fill that void.

There is an urgent need to defend our craft distilling industry and demonstrating our growth – which likely outpaces the growth of big liquor here in the U.S. – is critical.  This data is essential, as we already know it will help us with our legislative fights, in our efforts with our local ABC authority as we attempt to open new DSPs, and with our states as we attempt to demonstrate our impact on the economy.  The data will also prove helpful for the members of the media as they continue to understand and learn about our business sector.

Please answer all of the questions in this survey to the best of your ability. If you are not the best person in your DSP to answer, please feel free to share it with someone who has the knowledge.  It will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.  ACSA has hand selected our partners for this initiative. Park Street specializes in providing back end office and financial solutions for the alcohol beverage industry.  The IWSR is the world’s leading wine and spirits data source, having established itself over 40 years ago and now operates in over 150 markets worldwide.  For your efforts, in addition to a copy of this report, you will receive a complementary IWSR report specific to the categories in which you are active.

Can you afford to not be a part of this project? Please complete your survey no later than one week upon receipt.  A prompt response is crucial for a full data analysis.  Thank you in advance for your anticipated reply.  Please note, before beginning this survey, you may wish to have access to sales information from 2015.

Cheers –

ACSA, IWSR & Park Street
