Conscience and Conversation: A Study during the Reconsideration of the social statement Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust

The 2022 ELCA Churchwide Assembly authorized the reconsideration of a subsection of the social statement Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust. This subsection is on pages 18-21 ("Sex, gender, and sexuality in marriage.") Reconsideration is a formal process that invites the church to deliberate about specific questions related to parts of a social teaching. The authorization specifically directs the task force to consider possible revisions to text related to the concept of "bound conscience" and the four positions on pages 20-21. Please limit your comments and feedback to this section of the social statement.

After completing the study, please share your feedback and suggestions with the task force. Please complete the following survey and be as specific as possible with your comments. More information on the process can be found at www.elca.org/Reconsiderations. Lengthier comments or suggestions that do not fit the survey format can be sent by email to Reconsiderations@elca.org. Thank you for your time and participation!
