Co-production workshop: expression of interest

Healthwatch BNSSG and TCF are carrying out a project about conversations about weight in health and care settings.

The project was commissioned by the three councils as part of the Why Weight? Pledge, a BNSSG initiative that aims to reduce weight stigma and improve the way weight is discussed across health and care settings and services.

Over the last few months, we carried out interviews exploring people's experiences of conversations about weight across BNSSG. The findings highlight both the positive impact of supportive, person-centred conversations and the ways that stigma, assumptions and poorly handled conversations can really affect people's experiences of care.

We are now moving into the next phase of the project, which will focus on co-producing a practical resource to support health and care professionals to have sensitive, respectful and stigma-informed conversations about weight. This resource will be developed alongside people with lived experience, professionals from a range of settings and system stakeholders.

We are inviting health, care and community professionals and system stakeholders to take part in a co-production workshop on 7 December 2026, from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm, at The Vassall Centre, Gill Avenue, Fishponds, Bristol BS16 2QQ.

The workshop will include a mix of professionals and people with lived experience of higher-than-average weight. Together, we will explore how to create a practical resource that helps professionals recognise and respond to weight stigma.
