A Little Nourish Kit Emergency Breastfeeding Support Initiative aims to reduce barriers to infant feeding during emergencies and ensure that breastfeeding and pumping families have access to safe, practical, and dignified support when they need it most.
By providing both privacy shelter kits and breastfeeding support bags, communities can better support infant nutrition, maternal health, and family resilience during emergencies.
Emergencies can disrupt routines, separate families from resources, and create barriers to safe infant feeding. To support breastfeeding and pumping families during disasters, evacuations, sheltering situations, housing instability, domestic violence situations, or other emergencies, Isanti County Public Health has developed two resources:
1. Emergency Breastfeeding Privacy Shelter Kits
Suggested uses include but are not limited to:
Emergency shelters
Evacuation centers
Disaster assistance centers
Family Assistance Centers (FACs)
Cooling and warming centers
Community response sites
Public events requiring lactation accommodations
2. Emergency Breastfeeding Support Bags
Suggested uses include but are not limited to:
Emergency evacuation
Disaster sheltering
Housing instability or homelessness
Domestic violence situations
Extended power outages
Transportation disruptions
Other emergency circumstances requiring rapid relocation
These resources are designed to help families maintain infant feeding practices, protect milk supply, and provide comfort, privacy, and essential supplies during challenging situations.
