Virginia Scientists & Educators Alliance (VA SEA) Project

Educators from the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in Virginia (CBNERR) and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) invite up to 10 science graduate students from Virginia Sea Grant affiliated universities to participate in a lesson plan development project where they’ll learn best practices for communicating their research through the development of lesson plans designed for middle and high school classrooms.

Graduate student participants will:
* Attend two 1/2-day training workshops to receive instruction on best practices in lesson plan development. At the workshop, mentor teachers will work with the graduate students to help develop a lesson plan idea based on the student's research and that aligns with Virginia's science Standards of Learning (SOLs).
* Develop a research-based lesson plan that will be classroom-tested by a K12 teacher.
* Refine their lesson plan based on feedback from the teacher.
* Present their lesson plan at the VIMS Lesson Plan expo in Spring 2024.

Graduate students that fully participate in the project will receive $250  in workship.
