ANTIDOTE: 30 intimate stories by 30 different women that will be translated to art in 30 days - Application
ANTIDOTE: Uncovering the Skin & Soul, by Ruby Subramaniam
For the longest time, the cosmetics industry has eroded women’s self-esteem and it continues to thrive by visually poisoning us and feeding our insecurities.
Antidote, is a project I have planned for the entire month of March while I’m in residency with Rimbun Dahan. Together with my female friends, I would like to explore our responses. I hope that within this safe space we can all gather our wisdom and help each other to navigate and counteract this modern day problem.
I’ll be inviting women to come in and talk about their relationship with their bodies. The discussion? Scars, insecurities, modesty, beauty, motherhood, aging, sexuality and about everything that entails being a woman - anyone who identifies as a woman.
30 intimate stories by 30 diverse women that will be translated to art in 30 days. This application is to book a session with me during 2-31 March, 2018.
Ultimately, this project will be documented in a video format to be shared online. If you participate in this project, you would have to sign a consent form to share the body art that was painted on you and a video interview.
Of course, you can choose to reveal your name/face or stay anonymous. What matters most is that your stories get shared to more people who might need to hear it.
What to expect?
1. I'll meet you in the morning and talk to you about your relationship with your body and stories (~30mins).
2. After a brief break, I'll start painting on you (~4hrs). You may want to reconsider applying if you are ticklish.
3. Once the painting is done, I will have an interview session and takes some photos. You'll be with me during the entire session, a videographer would be in the room only when your comfortably dressed towards the end of our session (~2 hours).
Yes, it's a commitment for an entire day. But think of it like spending it with your BFF. We'll have girly talks, I'll tell you my stories as you tell me yours. It'll be good. And no matter what, your comfort is my utmost priority.

My Previous Campaign
Last year I worked on a project called "This Body is Mine" that was well-received locally and internationally.
Giving a contemporary artistic spin to the elements present in each of the Hindu goddesses, I hoped more people understand the role of women in Indian culture. But it transcended culture and religion.
In August 2017, it was featured as one of the top 50 projects selected for the Global Movement of the Arts, and was presented in World Humanities Conference that was held in Liege, Belgium.
It was also exhibited in Adam&Eve UK for Women's Day, National VIsual Arts Gallery Malaysia and is one of the projects fe
