The City is investigating methods to improve policy documents and requirements for park standards, which will result in parks that meet community needs, are sustainable, accessible and reduce the carbon footprint.

What Are Park Standards?
Park Standards are policies and guidelines that provide a set of rules for developers, builders, and government to follow so that the City of Saskatoon builds and upgrades parks to meet community  needs and benefit from the environment. Park Standards are important to:
  • Locate parks within the City so they are accessible
  • Ensure parks are safe, enjoyable, and comfortable
  • Provide recreation opportunities for all ages and abilities
  • Guarantee enough land is set aside for parks
  • Ensure playgrounds, seating, lighting, and walkways are functional, safe, and appealing
  • Provide a connected open space system with trails for cyclists and pedestrians
  • Enhance nature in the City
  • Preserve natural and cultural heritage
