Enrollment in Continuing Education

Some AFT members who want to further their educations or improve their pay do so by enrolling in online degree or credential programs. Many of these programs are offered by for-profit colleges.

Some of these programs are currently required by federal law to provide a warning regarding their graduates' likelihood of obtaining "gainful employment" in their chosen fields.

The DeVos Department of Education is seeking to eliminate this warning requirement, is stalling the release of data that would help you to decide whether these programs are good investments of your time and money, and is making it harder for you to protect yourself from schools whose graduates don't obtain "gainful employment".

This is a survey to identify AFT members in education and health care who are impacted by this delay.

Question Title

* 1. Are you currently enrolled in, or considering enrollment in, a program conferring a credential in Education at any of the following institutions? Check the answer that applies to you.

Question Title

* 2. Are you currently enrolled in, or considering enrollment in, a program conferring a credential in a health professional field at any of the following institutions? Check the answer that applies to you.

Question Title

* 3. How can we contact you for follow-up?

What happens next?

If you answered yes to question 1 or 2 and provided contact information, an AFT staff member will be contacting you to follow up.

In the meanwhile, we encourage you to look into the continuing education options (including distance learning options) at your local community or state college.

And we recommend that you ask any institution where you are considering a continuing education program--public or for-profit--to provide data about its success placing graduates in the career fields for which the institution was preparing them.

Thank you for helping your fellow union members by taking this survey!
