Thank you for your interest in hosting an Urban Fellow intern during the Summer 2017 session.

The Project Proposal deadline is May 5th.
The Urban Fellows Program is now a PAID internship at $12/Hour, 10-20 hours per week, paid for by the hosting division.
Divisions are expected to give Urban Fellows specific and meaningful projects to complete during the internship. Please see sample projects below. Projects should support the functions, goals, and mission of the departments to which Urban Fellows are assigned and have lasting impact on the department's work. Intern supervisors are also expected to provide guidance, support and direction to ensure Urban Fellows have positive and valuable learning experiences.

Applications are now available to interns between March 1st and April 28th.  Program participants are chosen and placed within service centers who express interest by completing this survey.  Hiring decisions are made at the discretion of the Program Coordinator based on the information submitted during this survey. Service Centers who demand special requirements from their interns should express such in the "Special Requirements" field below. For example, if your department requires extensive background screening please make this known below.

Urban Fellows will work a minimum of 10 hours per week and a maximum of 20 hours per week. The Summer 2017 session will last approximately 10 weeks, from June 12th through August 18th. The Urban Fellows' internship experience may also include professional development opportunities outside of their regular assignments, hosted by the program coordinator. Upon the session's completion, all Urban Fellows will present their project as well as what they have learned during their time with the City at a Culmination Ceremony.

Past Urban Fellows Projects:
  • Create a community outreach program to help educate the public about CLERB.
  • Conduct an analysis of potential increased city revenue from uncollected hotel/motel taxes from online vendors.
  • Research and recommend recruitment strategies targeting the Spanish-speaking community in Memphis.
