Application information

You must submit a complete application package by February 1, 2019 for full consideration.

In this 11-week summer program, undergraduate students are given the opportunity to work elbow-to-elbow with a faculty, post-doctoral scientist, staff scientist, or graduate student mentor on current field-based research projects. Washington University students and outstanding students from other colleges or universities are welcome to apply. We are particularly interested in increasing the racial, cultural, and ethnic diversity of our summer community.

The fellowship program will run from May 20 through August 2 for summer 2019. Each fellow will be awarded a $4,400 stipend. Additional program information is available here.

Please consult the current profiles of Tyson Mentors as you will be asked to indicate your preferred projects. It is highly recommended that you contact preferred mentors to express your interest prior to submission of your application.

There are limited spaces available in the program as a whole and with each research team. Undergraduate fellows are selected based on relevant experience, interests, personal goals, and professional goals. Your answers to the application questions and essays will help us in the selection process as we match students and mentors. There is no competitive advantage in applying to one research team over another, so please indicate your team preferences based on your actual interest.

You will be asked to provide contact information for three references and to email a pdf of your current resume.

Low income students (Pell grant eligible) may be considered for award of a scholarship (supplement to the $4,400 stipend). At the end of the application there is opportunity for you to indicate your desire for scholarship consideration.

Tyson Research Center may choose to award a highly competitive WashU student with the honor of a named fellowship. At the end of the application there is opportunity for you to indicate your desire for consideration as a named fellow.
