1. Project Description

We invite you to participate in a statewide on-line survey on undocumented Latina/o student motivation towards higher education.

Requirements to participate in the on-line survey:

-Born outside of the United States
-Have been undocumented for part or most of your education in the U.S.
-18 years of age or older
-Reside in California
-Latina/o
-Currently enrolled as a college student. If you are NOT currently enrolled, you may also take the survey if you are planning to return to complete your education.

Project Information

My name is Elvia Lorena Navarro and I am a student in the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology at New Mexico State University currently conducting research for my doctoral dissertation. Under the direction of my advisors Dr. Ivelisse Torres and Dr. Rachel Navarro, I am conducting research examining the experiences and motivation of undocumented Latina/o students in higher education.

Confidentiality

Participation in this study is completely anonymous. We will NOT collect any form of identifying information (please do not include your name, addresses, or any other identifying information in the responses). The cumulative results of the study will be published in academic journals and distributed to various organizations that cater to undocumented students. All publications will not have any identifying information. All of the data will be securely stored in the principle investigator's research lab and will be destroyed at the conclusion of the study.

Risks

There are minimal risks in participating in this study. Some risks include becoming fatigued by answering the questions (approximately 20 minutes). Other risks include slight discomfort by some of the questions. To overcome this risk, participants have the option to skip over questions if they feel any discomfort. Each participant has the right to withdraw their participation in this survey at any time and without jeopardy.

Benefits

Participants will not receive any monetary compensation for their participation. However, it is hoped that the results of this study will help in the development of resources and services for undocumented students throughout the state of California.

Voluntary Nature of Participation

Your participation in this study is completely voluntary, and you may decline to participate or withdraw from the study at any time without jeopardy.
