About:
Seattle's waterfront (Dzidzilalich) stands on the lands and shared waters of the Duwamish and Puget Sound Coast Salish People, whose ancestors have resided here since time immemorial.

"Unity" is a one-acre site with an existing business next to Duwamish Waterway Park. Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) worked in partnership with South Park community members to purchase the site in mid-2021. This created the opportunity for the City of Seattle's Duwamish Valley Program and SPR to work with the community to complete a site plan for developing this property so that it can meet community needs. This project responds to the Duwamish Valley Action Plan's goals to advance environmental justice in the Duwamish Valley.

The final site plan will identify the general types, sizes, and locations of park elements. This is your opportunity to provide feedback on these site plan options. SPR will engage the community in future phases of design and fundraising.

Project Guiding Principles:
Early community input, guidance from the Duwamish Valley Action Plan, and feedback from the City established principles that guided the development of the site plan options.

  1. Consider how the site can accommodate community priorities for community supportive services and open spaces
  2. Prioritize the Principles of Public Space for Communities of Color
  3. Increase access to the Duwamish River
  4. Restore aquatic habitat
  5. Expand opportunities for cultural activities and uses
  6. Synthesize stakeholder needs into a Preferred Site Plan
  7. Develop a comprehensive environmental cleanup strategy
Community Engagement and Work to Date:
The City worked with the Duwamish Valley Affordable Housing Coalition, Duwamish Valley Youth Corps, Duwamish Valley Sustainability and other organizations to engage community members about how to develop the Unity site in ways that meet the needs of all community members and inform these site design options.

We are now gathering feedback on site plan options.

Your feedback will inform the final site plans. The City will then report back to the community about the final site plans and resulting decisions.
