Tutoring Program Description

The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership (RWRCOEL) is offering a Tutoring Program at Crossroads Elementary School, which is one of Walden University’s partner schools in St. Paul Public Schools. Crossroads Elementary (PreK – grade 5) is a year-round school that offers two distinct, but collaborative programs: Montessori and Science. The school is considered highly diverse with about 800 enrolled students.

The RWRCOEL is recruiting Walden faculty and staff in the Twin Cities metro area who have been employed by Walden for at least six months to volunteer as a tutor. The session will run from September 18, 2019 - January 29, 2020. Volunteers will tutor a small group of children in Reading, Writing, or Math.

Volunteers will be grouped together, and each group will tutor four times during the session - once every 6 weeks. The tutoring will occur on Wednesday mornings, and the tutors will be given a schedule at the start of the session. Tutors can expect to be out of the office for approximately 3 hours during each tutoring session, including drive time. Tutors must provide their own transportation (or coordinate a carpool with another group member), and will not be reimbursed for their mileage. Hours spent tutoring can be applied toward Volunteer Time available to all full-time employees, or as regular work time (for both exempt and nonexempt employees), pending manager approval.
