Traffic Bylaw Input

Town Council has provided 2 readings of the new Traffic Bylaw and would like feedback before considering the final reading of this new Bylaw.

A new traffic bylaw will combine the regulations

which will allow us to repeal bylaw #481 Protection of Persons & Property

(1964), bylaw #632 Snowmobile Operation (1974), bylaw #871 License and

Control the operation of bicycles, the current Traffic bylaw #15/08 (plus

amendments) and bylaw #18/08 Disabled Parking

* 4. Contractor Parking – Section 19.1

The new proposed bylaw would require a contractor to apply for a non fee permit that would provide information when  contractor vehicles/trailers will be parked on-street for a length of time. This allows the town to contact the owner should access to the area be required for maintenance.

* 5. Parked Vehicles  -  Sections 26/27

The current Traffic Bylaw does not have a clause that allows the municipality to remove parked vehicles for town road maintenance, it only allows for vehicle removal for emergencies.

 Sections have been added to allow for vehicles to be moved / impounded for maintenance reasons.

 The current Traffic Bylaw general speed within the municipality is a maximum of 50 km/hr.

The Proposed Bylaw would have the general speed limit reduced to 40 km/hr

* 10. Brakes  - Section 47  ( Compression Release Engine Retarder Brakes ) 

The current Traffic Bylaw does not address compression released engine brakes.
