The overall purpose of this study is to better understand how to measure children’s motivation for food. Results of this study should help to further our understanding of how individuals relate to food and how to measure their motivation to eat at a young age.

If eligible, you and your child will attend 4 appointments at our lab on UB’s South Campus. During these appointments we will be playing a game with music, food, bubbles, and/or reading. Each appointment lasts about 30 minutes up to an hour. You will be compensated for your time and effort; you will receive $20 for the first visit, and $15 for additional visits. You may be invited back for further appointments after completing the initial ones.

In order to determine your eligibility for the study, we will ask you to answer a screening questionnaire. If you and your child pass the screening, we will invite you to attend the in-person visits, and you will be given time to ask any questions pertaining to the study.

In this questionnaire, specific personal questions will be asked and recorded into a private database maintained by the Division of Behavioral Medicine. This database will include contact information, demographic information (birthday, weight, etc.) as well as your interest/willingness to participate in future studies. This information will be kept in the database, with your consent, to help recruitment for future studies. Should you choose to not be contacted for future studies, your information will still be stored but will be marked as uninterested for future participation. Any information related to you will be treated in strict confidence to the extent provided by law. The screening questionnaires will take approximately 5 minutes. Your participation in this screening process is completely voluntary, and you have the right to refuse to answer any questions. However, if you refuse to answer, then you will be deemed ineligible for this study. The screening process will end and the information you provided will be deleted from our system.

To find out if your child is eligible, please answer the questions below and someone from our staff will contact you shortly. If you have any immediate questions, please call us at 716-829-2261.

This information screener is part of a research study. Risks of filling out this screener include someone other than the researchers seeing your answers, although this is very unlikely.
