Our 9 categories include:
1. Female Elder Award
This award recognises an esteemed Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander woman Elder who has demonstrated outstanding cultural leadership and lifelong commitment to her community. Nominees should have made significant contributions to the empowerment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly through the preservation and sharing of cultural knowledge, language, and traditions. Nominees must demonstrate active involvement in their community and show a sustained impact in guiding the younger generations and strengthening cultural identity.
Selection criteria may include:
Long-term community leadership and service
Cultural knowledge transmission and preservation
Advocacy and support for community wellbeing
Inspirational mentorship across generations
2. Male Elder Award
This award recognises a respected Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander man Elder who has demonstrated outstanding cultural leadership and lifelong dedication to his community. Nominees should have made significant and lasting contributions to the empowerment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly through the safeguarding and transmission of cultural knowledge, language, and traditions. The nominee should be actively involved in their community and serve as a mentor and role model for current and future generations.
Selection criteria may include:
Long-standing leadership and community service
Preservation and sharing of cultural knowledge
Advocacy for social and cultural wellbeing
Intergenerational guidance and mentorship
3. Emerging Leader Award (25-40 Years Old)
This award recognises an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individual aged between 25 and 40 who is demonstrating strong leadership and making a significant contribution within their community, profession, or field. Nominees should show a clear commitment to empowering others and driving positive change while continuing to grow as leaders; reflect the strength of past generations while demonstrating clear vision and action in shaping the future; and contribute to the ongoing legacy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Selection criteria may include:
Demonstrated leadership and initiative
Contribution to community, organisation, or sector
Commitment to cultural values and community empowerment
Potential for continued impact and leadership growth
4. Caring for Country and Culture Award
This award recognises the outstanding contributions of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individuals, groups, or communities who are actively caring for, protecting, and revitalising Country and culture. Nominees may be engaged in activities such as teaching or preserving language, dance, or cultural traditions; conserving land and water; or safeguarding cultural heritage for future generations. The award honours those who demonstrate excellence in cultural or environmental stewardship and who contribute measurable benefits to their community.
Selection criteria may include:
Revitalisation and transmission of language, traditions, or cultural practices
Environmental or cultural conservation efforts
Active protection and custodianship of Country
Community impact and intergenerational engagement
