Survey for possible name replacements following the removal of Confederate generals names.

Military and congressional leaders are discussing renaming military bases that are currently named after Confederate generals as a means to highlight the military’s diversity and ensure military bases are inclusive for all servicemembers, dependents, and families. SWAN believes the bases named after Confederate generals should be renamed and at least one of the renamed bases should be named after a military woman. If the military wants to truly exemplify the diversity of the Armed Forces, it must acknowledge that women currently comprise twenty percent of the armed services and have made countless heroic contributions to the US military.

There is currently no unified effort to encourage our military and congressional leaders to include at least one woman in the renaming base efforts. For this reason, SWAN will lead an effort to solicit, include, and advocate for at least two formerly Confederate-inspired bases to be named after a military woman.
