HPDP Suicide Prevention Trainings 2025-26

Training will start at 8:30 am for each Training Date
Time Duration: up to a 90-minute training on the basics of suicide prevention.
Participants: 16 years and older

Training Objectives
• Participants will learn how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, ask the suicide question and learn how to refer someone to help
• Learn about Navajo Nation statistics from most recent published mortality report.
• Become familiar with local, state and national suicide prevention resources.

safeTALK – suicide alertness for everyone
Training begins at 8:30 am for each Training Date
Time Duration: up to 4 hour training
Participants ages 15 years and older

Training Date: March 18, 2026

safeTALK, from LivingWorks organization, is a half-day training in suicide alertness. It helps participants recognize a person with thoughts of suicide and connect with resources who can help them in choose to live. Participants don’t need any formal preparation to attend the training – anyone age 15 years and older who wants to make a difference can learn the safeTALK steps.

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training
Training will start at 8:30 am
Time Duration: Training will be up to 6 hours
Note: HPDP facilitate a Blended training that will require participants to complete pre-training work prior to the in-person training.
Participants: 16 years and older

Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) Training is a skills-based training that teaches parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors and health and human services workers and any other citizen how to identify, understand and respond to an adolescent (ages 12-18) who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge

ASIST – Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training
Training/Workshop begins at 8:30 am for each training dates.
Time Duration: 2 days, 16 hours
Ages 16 years and older
ASIST is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first-aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when some may be at risk of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don’t need any formal training to attend the workshop – ASIST can be learned and used by anyone.

Suicide Prevention Trainings will be facilitated by HPDP staff who are certified, registered trainers for each training.
