UK Onshore Helicopter Operators Flight Data Monitoring Survey

UK Onshore Helicopter Operators Flight Data Monitoring Survey

The Onshore Safety Leadership Group, in conjunction with the CAA, are conducting some Industry information gathering about the use of HFDM. Completion of this survey will help paint a picture of HFDM use within the Onshore Sector.

If you are a Part CAT, NCC, NCO or SPO Operator and utilise some form of HFDM, please complete the questions below, which have been designed to help understand the current safety benefits and feasibility of HFDM usage. The survey should take no more than five minutes. All inputs are requested by 19th December 2025.

Note: For the purposes of this survey, HFDM can be considered to be the use of systems such as flight tracking equipment (fitted or carry on), accessible engine or flight instrument recording equipment (eg HOMP, HUMS), but does not include CVFDR, cockpit cameras or ELT/PLB.

7.Who manages the system output (pilot / gatekeepers / manager / NP)
8.How frequently do you review the data collected from HFDM?
9.Based on ease of use, data outputs, safety benefits and cost effectiveness, please score your HFDM system out of 10 (with 1 being poor and 10 being highly effective).
10.What are your main reasons for not using HFDM?
