Student Employment Classifications
Student Assistant - An undergraduate or graduate student currently enrolled in at least 6 hours with the university and is employed to perform work that does not require academic training at the graduate level.
Student Assistant - External – An undergraduate or graduate student who is currently enrolled in at least 6 hours in an institution of higher education other than Texas Tech and who is also employed to perform work as assigned by a supervisor.

For full-time positions, please visit Texas Tech University Careers for current offerings.

A student employee (with the exception of a Student Assistant - External) must be enrolled as a student at Texas Tech as a condition of employment and is expected to be in good academic standing and making satisfactory progress toward a degree.

Because undergraduate and graduate student employees are both students and employees, employment is part-time, and students employed may not work for the university for more than an average of 20 cumulative hours per week.

Minimum qualifications for Student Assistant candidates include:
  • Maintain a minimum 2.00 semester TTU/TTUHSC grade point average and 2.0 cumulative TTU/TTUHSC grade point average (GPA may vary based on department).
  • Maintain a minimum enrollment of 6 credit hours (may vary if a student works directly with a sport).
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must maintain good academic and student conduct standing within the university.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work nights/weekends and select athletic events as assigned.
