Motueka Catchment Collective farm environment plans for small farms 2024

Wednesday 24 April 5:30 to 8:00
Motueka Library, Wallace Street, Motueka

If you have a lifestyle property that is over 20 hectares you are most likely required to have a Farm Environment Plan. FEP requirements are for 20ha or more of pastoral use, 5 ha or more of horticulture, or 20 ha or more of combined use. For more information see here - https://tasman.govt.nz/my-region/tasman-rural-hub-2/freshwater-farm-plans/.
This is an opportunity to have help preparing a FEP for your property. There will be presentations on the following topics:
- Understanding how your land affects the environment
- Water quality, erosion, critical sources, soils, impact of animals
- Planting and plant management plan for your property
- Weed control, plant layout, plant choice, seed collection.
- Management practices to mitigate environmental issues
- Wetlands, riparian strips, bunds, sediment ponds
You will be given a simple template set up for small farms (lifestylers). You will work on your own farm plan with topic experts and Tasman District Council staff.
This workshop is open to all Nelson and Tasman lifestyle property owners. Dinner will be provided.
See - https://motuekacatchment.org.nz/trees-that-count-native-trees-available-now/ if you live in the Motueka Catchment to apply for free natives.
