Course Description
 
The State of California is one of the largest employers in the State.  With agencies dedicated to issues such as forestry, healthcare, environmental protection and more, the State of California employs individuals with a wide range of skills, interests and professional backgrounds.  Many people, however, find the State hiring process to be complex and a bit of a mystery.  Our goal is to take some of the complexity out of the process. 

This 2-hour seminar covers the following topics:An Overview of The State Hiring Process - From advertising a job through the eventual hire, we will take the mystery out of the process.
  • How to Search For a Job That Matches Your Skills and Interests - Many of the State's jobs have job titles that you may not be familiar with (although there is some effort to change this).  We will give you an overview of the State of California's job search website and walk you through a sample job search.
  • Setting up an ECOS Profile - ECOS stands for Examination and Certification Online System.  In order to take state occupational exams and apply for jobs, you need set up an ECOS profile.  We will give you an overview of ECOS so you can more efficiently take advantage of it.
  • An Overview of How State Hiring Managers Decide Who to Interview - Submitting a high quality application, cover letter and resume is only half of the process.  We will share with you the secrets that may help you actually be selected for an interview.  Once you have this, it is up to you to apply the lessons learned in previous lectures..
