Dear Colleagues

I am writing to you regarding the commencement of the 2016 alcohol and drug workforce survey, being undertaken in partnership by the Victorian Alcohol and Drug Association (VAADA) and the Victorian Department of Health & Human Services (the department) in November and December 2016.

The purpose of this survey is to identify the size, structure and composition of the alcohol and drug workforce across Victoria. This will be the third survey in a series, and will assist VAADA and the department to understand how the workforce has changed over time. It will also provide a rich evidence base upon which the department, in partnership with the sector, can identify potential workforce pressures and priority workforce needs.

The survey is being conducted by the Victorian Alcohol and Drug Association (VAADA) on behalf of the department and comprises two parts:

- An agency survey that will collect information on the size and characteristics of the alcohol and drug workforce, and the issues that are perceived to be impacting on the effectiveness of the sector.

- A worker survey that will collect information on the characteristics, distribution and qualifications of the alcohol and drug workforce, and identify the priority learning needs for the workforce.

If you have any questions or concerns in relation to completing the survey, please contact Sarah Nikakis, Project Officer, VAADA on 03 9412 5607 or snikakis@vaada.org.au

If you have any questions about the workforce study please don’t hesitate to contact Clare Hanley, Senior Project Officer, Mental Health and Drugs Workforce Team, Department of Health and Human Services on 03 9096 7122 or clare.hanley@dhhs.vic.gov.au

I look forward to your participation in this important initiative.

Yours sincerely

Dean Raven
