SMS Parents' Association Volunteering

The intent of this questionnaire is to get to know you, your interests, and your skills, as well as give you an idea of events, activities and programs organized by the Parents' Association. We hope you will consider joining our dynamic, inclusive committee of parent volunteers. There are lots of ways to be involved, and many that do not require meetings or time-consuming tasks. Everyone is welcome, even those with limited time have a place!

Welcome table at Winter Term Registration

Autumn, Winter & Spring Coffee Klatch: a light breakfast for the parent community in the Patti Kaltsas Center. This is an opportunity for parents to get to know one another.

Fall Parents’ Weekend Reception: this social gathering brings together parents and staff for hors d’oeuvres and drinks in the Patti Kaltsas Center.

The Winter Ball: the largest fundraiser of the year at SMS with dinner, dancing & auctions; proceeds support the SMS Scholarship Fund.

Spring Parents’ Weekend Gathering: light fare and refreshments for the community following the Undergraduate Awards in May.

Staff Appreciation Breakfast: a way to thank the teachers, coaches and the staff for a wonderful year of hard work and support of the SMS students.

* 4. The Parents' Association is recruiting "seasoned" parents to act as Parent Ambassadors to be a resource for new families entering SMS. Parent Ambassadors will be linked by discipline to new parents. Beginning in the summer and throughout the year, ambassadors will reach out via email/phone to new families and be available for questions for the school year.

* 5. The Parents' Association is also recruiting parents to act as Grade Reps to organize class activities. Ideally, there would be two parents from each grade from different disciplines to interact as hosts for the community of their respective grades. Representatives will be responsible for creating one social potluck event at Fall Registration, identify ideas for a donation for the Winter Ball made on behalf of each grade, and continue to remind grade community of upcoming events.
