Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program Youth Recruitment

It is illegal to sell tobacco products to anyone under the age of 18.

The Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program of the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services is hiring teens to assist with the inspection of tobacco retailers to ensure compliance with the law.


The following criteria must be met in order to qualify for a Youth Agent position.

- Applicant must be 16 years of age by May 1, 2014.(Exceptions will be made for applicants who are home schooled.)

- Applicant must be 16 years of age during the months of May, June, July and August of 2014. (Exceptions will be made for applicants who are home schooled.)

- Applicant must be a non-smoker.

- Applicant must live in one of the listed Connecticut towns:

Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Berlin, Bethany, Bridgeport, Derby, East Hartford, Glastonbury, Hamden, Hartford, Hebron, Lebanon, Manchester, Marlborough, Middletown, Naugatuck, New Haven, North Branford/Northford, North Haven, Portland, Prospect, Rocky Hill, Shelton, Southington, Stratford, Trumbull, Wallingford, Waterbury, West Hartford, Wethersfield, Windham, Wolcott, Woodbridge

Additional Information:

- Pay rate is $8.70 per hour.

- Transportation to and from work is provided.

- Students available to work during the school day are preferred.

- Summer hours are available beginning July 8, 2014.
