A Study into the Effects of Exercise on Psychological Wellbeing

My name is Emma Storey and I am a third year psychology undergraduate. This questionnaire is part of my dissertation. You are invited to take part in a research study by the York St John University psychology department. Before you decide whether or not to take part, it is important that you understand what the research is for and what you will be asked to do. Please read the following information and do not hesitate to ask any questions about anything that might not be clear to you. Make sure that you are happy before you decide what to do. This study will be investigating the impact that exercise has on an individual’s psychological state by looking into their attitudes, beliefs and intentions.  Data collected by this questionnaire will then be analysed to find if those who engage in regular activity are more likely to have a positive psychological wellbeing than those who don’t. An explanation for the findings will then be presented.

You are under no obligation to participate.  It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. If you do decide to take part you will be asked to sign a consent form, and then to complete the questionnaire on the following pages. If you choose to take part, you can change your mind at any time and withdraw from the study without giving a reason. Your participation will require you to complete a questionnaire, once only, with no follow up or extra sessions required.  All data collected will be kept completely confidential and of which you may withdraw at any time before 30/03/15.  The results of this study will be analysed by the researchers and will be published in a BSc. student’s dissertation.
