Town of Woodside - Accessory Dwelling Units Survey

The State of California requires every city and town to plan for increased housing development between 2023 and 2031.  The State requires the Town of Woodside to provide an updated Housing Element plan that can accommodate 394 new housing units during that period.  The Town must provide a viable plan to accomplish the goal to the State for certification.

The Town historically relied on the construction of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), sometimes referred to as "granny flats" or "in-law units," to meet State housing requirements.  Because of a five-fold increase in State mandated housing targets, the Town seeks to promote the construction of ADUs to an even greater degree over the coming eight years.  The purpose of this survey is to measure your interest in constructing an ADU or ADUs on your property as well as understanding what you believe potential barriers are to their construction so that the Town can work towards removing them.

All responses are extremely valuable as the Town completes its draft housing plan.  If you have questions about the survey, please email Principal Planner, Sage Schaan, at sschaan@woodsidetown.org.
1.What is the size of your property?
2.Does your property have one or more Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on your property?  ADUs are defined as units attached to the main residence, or a building detached from the main residence (unit could be inside an existing barn) that includes a kitchen and a full bathroom.
3.If your property includes one or more ADUs, how many ADUs are on your property?
4.Are you interested in constructing an ADU on your property that is between 800 and 1,500 square feet in size between now and 2031?
5.Would you be interested in constructing an ADU on your property that is 800 square feet or less between now and 2031?
6.If you are interested in constructing an ADU but are concerned about constraints, please select constraints that may apply to you.
7.If the Town increased the number of ADUs allowed on your property (the current maximum is 1 or 2 based on lot size), or allowed the conversion of the existing residence into multiple units, how many units would you build before 2031, if your lot could accommodate the extra units?
8.Would you sign a letter of interest accompanied by a simple site plan indicating how many ADUs, including locations and sizes, that you would like to construct before 2031?
9.If you answered "yes" to the previous question, would you share your name, address, and email address?
