Objective:
To support a grant review service the capitalizes on the strengths of the Department of Surgery researchers to improve the number and percentage of successful grant applications, especially CIHR.

Process:
  • Those interested in having their grants reviewed should contact the research manager at least a month before the deadline with their draft grant.
  • Grant reviewers will be contacted to confirm their availability to review within a relatively tight timeline (1 week).
  • Grant reviewers are asked to review and comment using Tracked Changes in Word (or similar).
  • Reviewed grants should be returned to the grant submitter within a week of receipt and notifying the research manager.

Guidelines:
  • Grant submitters will also be grant reviewers.
  • Vice Chair of Research will be available to review grants.
  • Research manager/consultant will be available to review all grants.
  • All grants will have two surgeon reviewers, plus the research manager/consultant.
  • The maximum number of grants for review by any one person will be two at a time.
  • A pool of grant reviewers will be maintained (from the list of current reviewers and submitters).
