Vaccine Expansion Exploration

Dear AFHTO Physician Leads and EDs,

The Ministry of Health is assessing the potential for expanded routine vaccine administration in the pharmacy channel.

The Ministry is assessing the potential expansion of routine vaccines via the pharmacy channel, considering access (e.g., connected care) and logistics as part of this work. This is being undertaken as the province looks to connect every person in Ontario to the care they need when they need it. The right care in the right place, faster access to care and maximizing the skills and full potential of health care professionals.

For the Ministry assessment, vaccines are being looked at as four bundles based on life stages, childhood, school-based, adolescent / adult Tdap and older adult/older adult (See Appendix A). Ontario high-risk vaccine programs are not being considered as part of this assessment.

The Ministry is seeking stakeholder input and perspectives on the potential expansion of publicly funded vaccine in the pharmacy channel per the bundles of routine vaccines. This assessment is being undertaken as information gathering only at this time, there is no commitment on moving forward with the outcomes of the assessment.
We ask that you please take the time to complete the questions below no later than August 14.
