Join colleagues for a 90-minute occupational medicine scavenger hunt through the Smithsonian’s National Postal Museum. Working in small teams, participants will explore the history of postal work while hunting for clues that reveal the occupational health and safety challenges faced by workers over more than two centuries.
From anthrax and infectious disease to train wrecks, noise and vibration, repetitive work, ergonomics, and the unintended consequences of new technology, the museum turns out to be full of occupational medicine. Teams will find artifacts, solve challenges, take photos, and apply an occupational health lens to the work represented in the exhibits.
No advance preparation or knowledge of postal history is needed—just comfortable shoes, curiosity, and a willingness to look at a museum a little differently.
