About Sponsored Play

Sunday 29th April 2018, Westfield London (Shepherd’s Bush)

Following great success at Westfield London (Shepherd’s Bush) in 2013 and 2015, which together raised over £30,000 for War Child, Kensington Symphony Orchestra will return to Westfield on Sunday 29th April 2018 for another Sponsored Play, the 16th in a series that started in 1989.

The format is simple: for 6 hours, between 70 and 100 musicians from KSO will perform a continuous concert in front of Westfield’s shopping crowds, conducted by more than 25 volunteers from any walk of life, each of whom has donated money in exchange for their few minutes of fame on the podium. We are very grateful to Westfield London, which provides great support for the event so that all the proceeds can go to charity.

The money raised from sponsorship and donations on the day will go mainly to two charities: at least 70% (usually around 85%) will be split between War Child, ( a small international charity currently working to protect children from the brutal effects of war and its consequences in Afghanistan, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, Syria and Uganda; and The Kensington and Chelsea Foundation (, to support them in providing help for those who lived in Grenfell Tower, others directly affected and the local community. The balance goes to KSO itself, which uses the money to support our events and our work with Pimlico Academy.

Book a slot
We're inviting anyone who fancies a go at conducting an orchestra to donate some money and get themselves sponsored by friends and family in exchange for their 15 minutes of fame on the podium conducting KSO. You can choose from a variety of pieces and time slots throughout the day.

So if you're the next Simon Rattle, or think that there's nothing more to it than waving your arms around, come and give it a go.

Book your slot from the programme by filling in the form below as soon as possible so no one else can grab your favourite!

There is a minimum donation for conducting (£60, or more for longer pieces, and please feel free to donate more if desired) - please see the list below. Please donate the minimum donation via our MyDonate page NB Please give your name with your donation to help us match it with your entry form!

We would also be delighted if you also collect sponsorship from your friends on your own page - please link it to the KSO page

Once we have received your booking form and payment on the My Donate page we will confirm your place by email. Please note that your place is not confirmed until you have received this email. The email will include full instructions and details for the day. (N.B. confirmation emails are sent by hand, so the response may not come straight away - don't worry, we will be in touch soon!).

Once a booking has been confirmed, it will be greyed out in the list below. However if two people book for the same piece before we've been able to confirm and update the website, we will let you know in an email and ask you whether you would like to choose another work/time, or if you would like your donation returned.

Join the chorus!
