The City of Oakland began enforcing paid parking meters on Sundays citywide as part of an effort to improve parking availability and support local businesses.
- Enforcement Hours: Meters are enforced 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (citywide)
- Lake Merritt Area: Parking around Lake Merritt features extended hours, running from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sundays.
- Ticketing: Following an initial grace period and warning phase, the city began officially issuing citations for unpaid Sunday meters on April 12, 2026
According to the City, parking meters help increase parking turnover and make it easier for customers and visitors to find available parking spaces in busy commercial areas. However, the policy may affect businesses differently. This survey seeks to understand how Sunday paid parking has impacted businesses within the KONO district.
