Town of Kirkland Lake – Backyard Hen Survey

As part of its commitment to engaging the community, the Town of Kirkland Lake is exploring a new bylaw that would permit the keeping of backyard hens (female chickens) in both urban and rural areas. This initiative follows a petition from over 70 residents presented to council.

To better guide Council in making a decision, a public survey to gather input regarding the potential of keeping backyard hens has been developed. Your feedback is vital — whether you are considering raising hens, have concerns, or want to learn more.
1.Do you own property or reside within the Town of Kirkland Lake?
2.Do you support allowing backyard hens (female chickens only) on residential properties in Kirkland Lake?
3.If allowed, which areas should be permitted to keep backyard hens? (Select all that apply)
4.If allowed, how many hens should be allowed per property?
5.What concerns do you have about backyard hens? (Select all that apply)
6.Would you support a permit or registration system for residents who wish to keep hens?
