The Westside Sac IRWM is kicking off a new “brownfields” project that will engage communities in the Cache and Putah Creek watersheds about abandoned mining sites. Brownfields are lands contaminated by industrial processes that pose significant public health and environmental threats to our watershed. The Westside Brownfields Coalition Assessment Project will:
  • Create an interactive database of mine sites in the two watersheds;

  • Prioritize and assess mine-scarred sites in the area;

  • Evaluate sites for potential cleanup; and

  • Develop an overall brownfields plan for the region.

This project is funded by US EPA’s Brownfields Assessment Program. There is no risk of enforcement; this program offers entirely voluntary, free technical assistance!

We want your input on this project, to ensure the greatest possible public benefit! Please take five minutes to answer a few short questions.

* 1. Are you familiar with the U.S. EPA Brownfields Program?

* 2. Are you aware of any abandoned mine site cleanup projects in your community?

* 3. Please let us know of any relevant groups or venues we should coordinate our efforts with:

* 4. We are developing a set of criteria to prioritize abandoned mine sites for cleanup. Please rank in order the importance of each of the following criteria (1 being most important, 5 least important):

* 5. Additional comments or thoughts you would like to share on the prioritization criteria? If you ranked "Other," please describe this priority here.

* 6. Throughout the project, we will engage various stakeholders. How would you identify yourself:

* 7. In what county do you live or work?

* 8. Would you like to be more actively engaged with this project?

* 9. If Yes, how? (check all that apply):

* 10. Please provide your contact information if you would like to be more actively engaged in the project:
