TICR net zero benchmarking survey - Manufacturing industries

This self-assessment tool provides businesses in the transport, industrial and commercial sectors with a method to evaluate their current position and future opportunities to reduce carbon from their refrigeration equipment. It is based on a net zero refrigeration project carried out on behalf of the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) by a team of researchers led by London South Bank University. The questions relate to best practice and opportunities for improving refrigeration system energy management, identified through research and actual site surveys carried out during 2023/4 on a range of equipment.

Business owners, energy managers and in-house engineers will find this a useful tool to benchmark their business against the recommendations of the project. You are encouraged to use the tool as many times as you need either for your complete estate or for individual systems to help you to improve your score.

As well as providing a final score based on your answers to the questions in the survey the tool will provide you with useful guidance and sources of further information that you can use to help reduce energy, reduce emissions and work towards your net zero refrigeration targets.

Before you start this survey, you should consult a copy of your most recent F- Gas logs, site or system energy use data, if available, and energy audit inspection reports. If you do not have access to this information, you can still compete the survey, but this will affect your results. You can complete this survey for a single site or for your total overall estate - whichever data is available to you.

You will receive a rating (Gold, Silver, Bronze or nil) at the end of the survey that you can use to benchmark the approach to refrigeration against best practices identified by the TICR project. This benchmark will also allow you to evaluate the impact of any changes in the future.

Your results will include details of how you scored against each question which will help you identify areas for improvement and create an action plan. These recommendations are based on the TICR Guidance documents available as free downloads at www.netzerorefrigeration.uk

The data collected as part of this survey will not be shared externally to third parties and your personal contact data is protected. Statistical analysis will be carried out for monitoring purposes but your individual input will not be identifiable. You will be asked to opt in or out of data collection. The project may contact you with updates about the Benchmarking or project and you have the right to opt in or out.

This survey and its recommendations are designed to give general advice and have been developed based on input from experts in refrigeration. It does not give specific advice or any recommendations that are designed to conflict with or replace your legal obligations for example under F-Gas legislation, Health and Safety, Environment Standards and Safety Standards.
