Question Title

The National Council for Behavioral Health is pleased to announce the 2015 – 2016 Adoption of Trauma-Informed Care Practices Learning Community. This is an exciting opportunity for mental health and substance use organizations committed to implementing, sustaining and spreading Trauma-Informed Care throughout their organization to join with other providers to promote a fundamental organizational change in the culture of behavioral healthcare. Through this learning community participating organizations will enhance their ability to provide safe and secure physical and social environments and services that are easily accessible, person-centered, competently delivered, culturally respectful and consistent with recovery oriented principles of collaboration, shared decision-making and self-direction.

The year-long 2015 -2016 Adoption of Trauma-Informed Care Practices Learning Community participating organizations will be chosen by the National Council through a competitive application process. The cost of the learning community is:

• $7,500 for National Council member organizations and
• $10,000 for non- member organizations

Involvement in this learning community includes:

• Participation in a face to face Kick off Meeting at the National Council’s Annual Conference in Orlando, Florida on April 22nd and 23rd, 2015
• Complimentary registration to the pre-conference university on April 19th, 2015
• Virtual (web and phone-based) education
• Consultation and technical assistance from a team of national experts
• Participation in a thorough self-assessment of your program/organization
• Identification of outcomes based on seven domains that include performance indicators and tools to track progress
• Participation in the national trauma-informed list serve with past learning community members, allowing access to a vast array of resources, information and contacts
• Travel expenses are in addition to the cost to participate in the learning community

Learning Community Goals

• Develop a trauma-informed workforce
• Implement or improve screening and assessment for trauma
• Increase consumer engagement and involvement
• Implement trauma-informed best practices suited to the organizational environment
• Create safe environments that avoid re-traumatization
• Increase community awareness of trauma impact and trauma-informed care
• Address secondary traumatic stress/compassion fatigue among staff
• Access tools and resources to support trauma-informed care, including organizational wellness
• Organize, collect, analyze and utilize data to sustain and continue the improvement process


To support the Project Goals for the 2015 – 2016 Adoption of Trauma-Informed Practices Learning Community the National Council has assembled a team of experts from the trauma-informed care field. The team also includes experts in the training of multi-disciplinary staff and facilitating learning communities that assist programs to employ and sustain practice improvement.
