Redevelopment options for Bennett Oval

Feedback sought on design and possible additional uses

The Whyalla City Council is committed to the staged redevelopment of the Bennett Oval complex to provide Whyalla with a premier sporting facility with the ability to attract national level sporting events.

The current design (stage 1) pictured below incorporates:

1.       Totally refurbished grandstand building and toilet facilities inside and out

2.       Incorporates facilities to meet AFL playing requirements

3.       Refurbished and enhanced bar

4.       New canteen and cooking facilities

5.       New shade and weather structures

6.       Upgraded field lighting

7.       Upgraded irrigation for the playing surface

8.       New Turf and levelling for the playing surface.

9.       General amenity tidy up

10.   Disabled access from the carpark area.

The presented facility incorporating the field works and lighting has been preliminary costed at $2.8 Million. Council will be seeking grants and corporate sponsorship to fund as much of the project as possible.

Ideally Council will have the facility ready for use early in 2020.
