About Asian Charity Services (ACS)

Since 2007, Asian Charity Services (ACS) has provided professional development, training and consulting services to over 700 NGOs-based on a foundation of over 1,200 skills-based volunteers and subject matter experts – see www.asiancharityservices.org.
Teens Give Program

As part of ACS’ ongoing support to NGOs, we have created the Teens Give program to invest in fostering a culture of philanthropy and to facilitate access to the work that NGOs do in Hong Kong. This application is the first step in selecting the participating NGOs for the Teens Give pilot that will be held this summer from July 24 to August 5.

This highly engaging program will teach teens the business of philanthropy, help them to understand their role in this world, the impact they can have and give them the skills to discern what is important.

During the week, teen participants will learn about why philanthropy is important, have a chance to shadow NGOs in a public/charity sector of their choosing, produce a video helping to market the NGO they shadow and then present that video in an ACS Hackathon to win monetary awards (donations) for their NGOs. ACS' volunteer base of experienced consultants will teach teens practical skills of how to think about what is important and how to produce a video and present and pitch support for their ideas. Winning videos will also be promoted in a billboard in Hong Kong.

Eligibility

The application process for the pilot of this Program is based on the following criteria:
1) the applicant’s interest in Hong Kong's social, environmental and/or community related issues
2) the applicant’s desire to contribute their time and to develop their leadership capabilities
3) the applicant’s interest and willingness to learn visual storytelling skills

To be eligible, youth must be 13-17 years old by July 24, 2021 and reside in Hong Kong. Wherever possible, ACS staff, participating NGOs and other consultants will deliver the program in English. Because of the shadowing component, applicants must be capable of moderate physical activity, in good health, and able to follow instructions.

Upon the completion of this application form, a confirmation email will be sent to the applicant and his/her parents. In that confirmation, a Liability Waiver Form will be included which parents of the applicant will need to fill in and send back with their electronic signature.

Once we receive your application, we will shortlist applicants and will require an interview in order to make our final selection. Please note that the pilot of this Program is very small and we will endeavour to select applicants from diverse backgrounds to give us the feedback we need to make this Program a permanent offering of ACS.

Payment of Fees

As one of the objectives of Teens Give is to help NGOs with their fundraising, successful applicants accepted into the program will need to secure their spot with a HK$2,000 fee within 7 business days of acceptance, along with your signed acceptance letter. This fee will form part of the donation pool for participating NGOs. If you cannot provide the full amount, then please let us know by emailing to teensgive@asiancharityservices.org and we will consider subsidizing the fee based on the applicant’s situation.

Please note that these fees do not include the cost of your travel to and from the Teens Give workshop, NGO offices or other shadowing locations or the Hackathon. Fees also do not include personal spending money for lunch and other sundries.
