The undersigned, representing multiple homeowners' associations and neighborhoods in the area surrounding 4865 Tates Creek Road, respectfully submit this petition to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government in strong opposition to the proposed development and the associated request to rezone the subject property to permit apartment use.
Our communities share significant concerns regarding the adverse impacts this proposal would have on public safety, neighborhood character, and the surrounding environment. In particular, increased traffic volume generated by a higher-density apartment development would exacerbate already challenging traffic conditions along Tates Creek Road, creating heightened risks for residents, pedestrians, and commuters. The roadway is heavily traveled, and additional congestion would likely lead to increased accidents, delays, and strain on existing infrastructure.
Equally concerning is the anticipated loss of mature trees and degradation of the existing tree canopy in the area. The current landscape provides important environmental benefits, including stormwater mitigation, air quality improvement, and preservation of the natural character that defines our community. The proposed development threatens to significantly diminish these benefits and permanently alter the visual and ecological integrity of the corridor.
For these reasons, we respectfully urge LFUCG to deny both the requested rezoning and the proposed development plan in order to protect the safety, environmental health, and quality of life of current and future residents.
