Introduction

Welcome to the 2016-2017 Louisiana Nurse Practitioner (NP) Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Clinical Practice and Training Needs Assessment!  We need the input of nurse practitioners in Louisiana to help improve the screening and treatment of STDs in our state. Please take the time to complete this survey about your current clinical practices and your ideas regarding what improvements can be made through additional training for health care professionals. We want you to know that this is a landmark assessment that has not been done before in our state or the southern region.  Your responses will assist in determining training needs that can improve clinical practice.

According to the Centers for Disease Control’s 2015 STD State Profiles, Louisiana had the highest rate in the nation for congenital syphilis and gonorrhea, the 2nd highest rate for chlamydia, and the 3rd highest rate for primary and secondary syphilis. Nurse Practitioners are the principal group of advanced practice registered nurses delivering primary care in the United States and are filling unmet needs for primary care, especially in rural and underserved areas.

This survey is part of a project led by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Public Health Nurse Leader initiative and the Louisiana Action Coalition.

There will be four parts to the survey, which will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete. The four parts include: (I.) Personal/Professional Demographics, (II.) Employment and clinical subspecialty setting, (III.) Knowledge and practices of STD/HIV care and (IV.) Knowledge of Louisiana Action Coalition.

There are no monetary incentives for the completion of this survey; however, your input is critical to assisting us to better equip you to meet the challenge in the reduction of STDs in Louisiana.
