Opportunity Overview

Thank you for your interest in applying for this fully-funded annual IALP membership and mentorship opportunity for Speech and Language Pathologists/ Therapists (SLPs/SLTs).

The TF-IALP Membership project is a collaborative effort between Transforming Faces and the International Association of Communication Sciences and Disorders (IALP) to develop strategies for engaging with and providing professional development to SLPs in resource-constrained contexts.

Transforming Faces is a Canadian charity that supports comprehensive cleft care initiatives worldwide. A focus of our work over the last 20+ years has been on strengthening speech therapy services for children born with cleft and helping to establish a recognized speech therapy profession in low-resource contexts.

The IALP (International Association of Communication Sciences and Disorders) is a non-profit worldwide organization of professionals and scientists in communication, voice, speech language pathology, audiology and swallowing.

This project offers one-on-one mentorship with a senior SLP (provided virtually via platforms such as Zoom, WhatsApp etc.), access to IALP resources, and an opportunity for emerging SLP professionals in underserved and unserved areas of the world to advance their knowledge and skills through a liaison with IALP.  It also provides an opportunity for experienced IALP professionals to learn about resource-constrained settings and to collaborate with young SLPs in these contexts.

Membership Eligibility Criteria:
·               Undergraduate or graduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), or related field
·               Approximately 20% of current clinical work is related to cleft lip and palate
·               In first 5-7 years of professional practice
·               Lives in a LMIC/ resource-constrained country
·               English Language Fluency: can understand, speak, read and write in English

If you fulfill the above eligibility criteria, please complete the short application form below to help us learn more about you as an applicant. It should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. The deadline for submitting this application is EOD Friday, 28 July, 2023.
