Using instructor-provided readings and blog posts as a "textbook" was:(Check as many as you like) A great idea A flawed idea An inexpensive alternative to a traditional textbook A learning experience in itself I enjoyed the variety and relevance of contemporary readings (evaluate below, please) Some readings were more useful than others (specify below, please) No better than a traditional textbook Too limiting. I wanted more thorough instructional materials Not enough information. I wanted a textbook. I would have appreciated a style guide or grammar resource ADD A CHOICE: Please, what's the choice you're looking for here? Comments Question Title * 2. How would you rate the quality of Feedback given? (Check as many as you like.) Very helpful and I'll remember it Helpful for the assignment but I'll forget it Enough to make my essays better Too theoretical, not very practical I've never received such detailed and thorough criticism I appreciated the paragraph-by-paragraph analysis I would have preferred an overall analysis to all the specific details I appreciated that every draft was considered on its own merits I think handwritten notes on paper are better Made me angry. Too many complaints. Actually confused me ADD A CHOICE: Please, what's the choice you're looking for here? Comments Question Title * 3. What were your thoughts on using the blog as a way to turn in assignments and receive feedback on assignments?(Check as many as you like.) Awesome Hated it Found it very confusing A problem at first, but i got used to it I still prefer turning in assignments on paper I still prefer having several drafts in separate documents I loved being able to read classmates' essays I wish nobody else could have read my essays I learned from reading comments on my classmates' essays I never read anything but my own work and comments ADD A CHOICE: Please, what's the choice you're looking for here? Comments Question Title * 4. How effective was the plan to incorporate shorter arguments into your overall Research Position Paper?{Check as many as you like} Thought it was a good idea in general. Never understood what was required in the shorter arguments. Found I was repeating myself in all my short arguments. Would rather have written about four different topics. Appreciated that it made me do the work for the long paper weeks ahead of time. Still didn't work very hard until the last minute, as usual. Recommend doing more of the graded assignments earlier in the semester. ADD A CHOICE: Please, what's the choice you're looking for here? Comments Question Title * 5. Did you feel this course challenged you as a writer and helped advance your writing skills?(Choose as many as you like) Yes, it did both. It was challenging but not helpful. It wasn't challenging but I did advance my writing skills. No matter how much help I asked for, I kept getting it. It was easy to do little and get by. I kept making improvements, but the criticism kept coming. No matter how hard I worked, I didn't get better. The professor is impossible to please. No better or worse than any other writing course. ADD A CHOICE: Please, what's the choice you're looking for here? Comments Question Title * 7. Were the topics interesting and relevant to our lives?(Choose as many as you like) Yes really relevant. No not at all. Interesting but not relevant. Most of them were boring. Most of the topics were over my head. When I got to choose, I was happy. I appreciate all the suggested counterintuitive topics. I resented having to choose something counterintuitive. It seemed arbitrary. No more or less relevant than a text book. Better than a textbook. ADD A CHOICE: Please, what's the choice you're looking for here? Comments Question Title * 8. Things you would most like to change about the course.(Try not to choose all the options) Get rid of the blog. Drop the "counterintuitivity theme." It's not working. Choose less depressing topic readings. Ditch the oral presentation requirement. More feedback. Or faster feedback. Some quick feedback and a grade. Then detailed notes over time. More sample or model essays to follow. Need clearer instructions for assignments. Nothing much. Thought it was pretty good. ADD A CHOICE: Please, what's the choice you're looking for here?
