Grade Configurations
Richmond Community Schools

We hope that you have had the opportunity to stay informed on the development of the Educational Facility Master Plan through our Community Meetings, Board Work Sessions, and the documentation of all materials which are posted on the school website at http://www.rcs.k12.in.us/.

All information and feedback to date are very important in this effort, and to ensure that we receive and hear as many viewpoints as possible, we are investigating the grade configurations of our schools in greater detail both in our second round of Community Meetings and in this online survey.

To gather as much feedback as possible, we encourage you to take just a few minutes to complete this survey as well as our surveys on our program offerings. We thank you in advance for your valuable input.

Elementary Schools

We currently serve pre-school through 4th grade in all six of our elementary schools.  The pre-school programs service students who are three and four years old.  Pre-school shifted from a pre-school center located at the Baxter Building (currently Community Youth Services) to their neighborhood schools about 7 years ago.  The transfer of pre-school students back to all elementary schools provided pre-school teachers collaboration opportunities with kindergarten teachers as well as reducing parent travel to the centralized Baxter building. The 5th and 6th grade students were moved to middle schools for the 2012-2013 school year.

Intermediate/Middle School

We currently serve 5th through 8th grade in our two intermediate schools.  Following a redistricting and grade configuration review initiative during the 2011-2012 school year, 5th and 6th grade students were moved from elementary schools to middle schools to create intermediate buildings.  The transfer of 5th and 6th grade students to the middle school provided additional collaboration opportunities for 5h and 6th grade teachers and better utilized the available capacity in the middle schools.  However, due to the shift of these students three elementary buildings were closed.
