Instructional Leadership Academy August 2014: Team Based Learning (Graduate Students)
Turn Your Students into Independent, Self-Motivated Thinkers with Team-Based Learning
August 5 & 7, 9:30am to 3:30pm ITLAL Underground (Library 69)
Application Deadline: July 29, 2014. There are a limited number of seats for this Academy.

Word is out that Team-Based Learning allows instructors to target higher intellectual goals while fostering greater student independence and accountability. The principle? Design well and then get out of students’ way while they figure things out! TBL is currently being used successfully at UAlbany by more than 200 faculty—-in small and large undergraduate and graduate classes in areas as diverse as Computer Science, Public Health, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Public Administration, Social Welfare, Information Literacy, History, Art, Physics, and Philosophy, to name just a few. This Instructional Leadership Academy will take you through the process of transforming a traditional course into a TBL course.
Completion of the Academy includes the following components: ** Attend two-day Academy, August 5 & 7, 2014, 9:30am to 3:30pm ** Complete substantial homework/reading assignments before Academy begins and between meetings ** Confer with ITLAL staff member on syllabus, the week before classes begin ** Conduct mid-term survey of students in Fall 2014 ** Have observation of class by ITLAL staff in Fall 2014 ** Meet with other Academy participants for a mid-semester lunch ** Write a brief reflection essay on the implementation
