We have a new plan for the fall, and we are excited to describe it to you.  We want to achieve four goals in the Children’s Ministry Program, and you can help us.

Goals for the Sunday Morning and Evening Program:
  1. To inspire and educate children to live as disciples of Christ.
  2. To deepen children’s faith and Biblical education, and encourage real-life application of Biblical teachings.
  3. To foster the development of meaningful, happy memories at church so our children grow up to be lifelong, active church members. We want them to miss church when they're not here.
  4. To practice radical hospitality, passionate worship, intentional (and age appropriate) faith development, risk-taking mission and service (at a local, regional and global scale), and extravagant generosity.
We cannot achieve this without you. There are several volunteer positions essential to the basic functions of children’s programs (check boxes below to indicate areas in which you're willing to serve):

Question Title

* 2. Children's Welcome Team- Ensuring the security of our children.
A weekly volunteer on a rotating basis will oversee a check-in station in the FLC at the trophy case (the desk near the nursery hall/stairs to elementary classrooms). All children up to 5th grade must check-in to all programs. Youth may volunteer for this important task. The weekly volunteer will serve from 8:45-9:05, 9:45-10:05, and 10:45-11:05.

Question Title

* 3. Infant/Walker Nursery Team
Help care for the youngest members of our church family by serving on a rotating basis.

Question Title

* 4. 3's/4's Nursery and Sunday School
Help care for these young members of our church family by serving on a rotating basis.

Question Title

* 5. Combined Nursery (Infant-4's)
Help care for these young members of our church family by serving on a rotating basis.

We are initiating Rotation Sunday School for elementary age children.
  • children will experience the same story for several weeks in a row, exploring the story in a different way each week
  • this model requires two types of volunteers, Shepherds and Rotation Teachers
  • children will be dropped off in their usual classroom in the care of Shepherds (teachers who introduce the lesson) who will take them to their Rotation (their activity of the week) at 10:10, where they will remain until parents pick them up at 10:50

Question Title

* 6. Shepherd Team - (essentially no preparation)
A Shepherd Will:

  • serve one age group (K-5/1st/2nd or 3rd/4th/5th) on a rotating basis throughout the school year, focusing on creating an emotionally and physically safe environment, with “Love your neighbor as yourself” as the primary rule
  • be in the classroom by 9:45 to greet children, and start them working on a  provided welcome activity until 10:00
  • introduce the story from 10:00-10:10, then walk the children to their rotation lesson of the week
  • remain with their class throughout the Rotation lesson, supporting the activity and maintaining order
We need a team of Shepherds for each age group.  Teams will decide how they divide up the program year - week to week, month to month, etc.

Question Title

* 7. Rotation Teachers - Lesson plans will be provided (no preparation) or create your own
A Rotation Teacher Will:

  • deepen a child’s understanding of the lesson, and build strong, positive memories at church
  • enthusiastically share one or more of their individual gifts with the children (see list below or propose your own ideas for rotation)
  • repeat the same lesson on two different weeks - once with each age group (K5/1st/2nd and 3rd/4th/5th)
  • teach from 10:10-10:45
  • use provided lesson plan or prepare their own if desired; the preparation could be minimal, or individual creativity can be applied for those who enjoy it
  • prepare once (or apply provided lesson) and repeat for three weeks, maximizing efficiencies
  • teach once a quarter or less
You should check all Rotations below that interest you. You can do more than one. They can be scheduled to avoid conflicts.

Rotation stations, in their diversity, may appeal to those who have never volunteered in Children’s Ministry before. The more participation we have from diversely talented adults, the richer the program grows.

Question Title

* 8. Sunday Evening Program - Pre-K Volunteer (minimal/no preparation required, curriculum provided):
Pastor Joe will lead the Pre-K choir and participate in leadership of the Pre-K program from 5:00-5:30

A Sunday Evening Pre-K Volunteer Team (two people/week) will:
  • serve from 5:00-6:30 on a rotating basis (perhaps once a month)
  • foster a love of church and worship and a sense of belonging within the church family
  • help build a strong foundation of Bible knowledge
  • keep order during choir
  • serve provided snack and supervise play
  • use provided materials to prepare and present a basic Bible story
Youth helpers are welcome, but do not count toward the two-person minimum every children’s program needs to meet Safe Sanctuary.

Preschool Children Sunday Night Schedule:
5:00 pm - 5:15 pm   Play
5:15 pm - 5:30 pm   Children’s Choir
5:30 pm - 5:40 pm   Snack

Question Title

* 9. Sunday Evening Children's Programming- Elementary
Mrs. Erin will lead the K5-5th grade Bible study, choir, and missions. By having one person over all three, they can easily be integrated in a way that is impactful and reinforcing of key themes of the week.

A Sunday Evening Program Elementary Volunteer Will:
  • have no preparation responsibilities
  • serve from 5:00-6:30 on a rotating basis (perhaps once a month)
  • ensure compliance with Safe Sanctuary practices and enhance the safety and experience of each child
  • help maintain order and teach discipleship through loving encouragement of the children, enforcing the “love your neighbor as yourself” rule
Youth helpers are welcome, but they do not count toward the two-person minimum required to meet Safe Sanctuary.

Elementary Children Sunday Night Schedule:
5:00 pm - 5:30 pm   Children’s Choir
5:30 pm - 5:40 pm    Snack
5:40 pm - 6:10 pm    Bible Study
